As visitors began to make their way into a joyous Kansas City Convention Center on Saturday for Grantham University's 2012 Commencement, a recurring theme was apparent in most of the friendly conversations I had with graduates and their families.

We're only one day away from an extremely special day at Grantham University. GU will hold its live Commencement Ceremony at 2 p.m. CDT on Saturday in the Kansas City Convention Center's Grand Ballroom.

Nearly two months ago, fellow blogger Lindsey Leesmann posted a blog article that highlighted three things every online student should know before graduation. In exactly 11 days, Grantham University's Class of 2012 will walk across the stage of the Kansas City Convention Center's Grand Ballroom to receive their diplomas and start a new chapter in their lives.

I used to play fetch with my friend's dog and lose track of time when I was in high school. I resorted to all sorts of fetching toys over the years: tennis balls were his favorite; frisbees; bones; dog toys. Five years ago, I sat in a packed auditorium, for once not feeling stupid for wearing the same outfit as the girl sitting next to me. It was my Commencement Ceremony – the culmination of four years of hard work – and we, in addition to the other hundreds of grads, were decked out in identical robes and mortarboards.

Seven decades ago today, President Roosevelt called December 7, 1941 “A Date That Will Live in Infamy.” That day – now known as Pearl Harbor Day – marks the surprise Japanese attack against U.S. troops stationed at Pearl Harbor. You most likely know that this raid was the catalyst that unified Americans to enter WWII. What you might not know is that it was the greatest loss of American life on U.S. soil until September 11, 2001 – killing 2,403 Americans, sinking 12 major U.S. Navy ships and destroying scores of planes.

The bad news: The poor United States economy has bumped the unemployment rate for young adults under the age of 24 to a whopping 16.7 percent, according to a recent article in the Wall-Street Journal.

Making the decision to go back to school and enroll in an online degree program is a huge commitment, but once you take that step, getting the support of your family is one of the most important things you can do.

Recently, Grantham University announced the name of their eagle mascot. After reaching out to active students and alumni in a student survey, the final vote was unanimous and Talon made the grand entrance at a recent Town Hall meeting.
