On Saturday, the Navy will turn 237 years young. The festive occasion will require quite a few candles on the military branch's birthday cake. If you know someone in the Navy, wish this person a happy birthday this weekend.

I was born in 1984, and no event in my lifetime has caused as much shock, sadness and disbelief as the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. I remember walking into my high school in Texas that Tuesday morning and wondering why fellow classmates and teachers were huddled around TVs, not saying a word. It was discernible from their faces that something significant was taking place. No one was ready to hear what had happened in New York.
