As you celebrate Valentine’s Day eating candy hearts or spending an evening out with someone special, take time to think about what you are truly passionate about and a career you would love to pursue.
In our adult lives, we spend most of our time in the workplace, so loving your job is important. Albert Schweitzer once said, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking the sole purpose of a career is to bring home enough money to support yourself or family. While compensation is an important part of any job, loving what you do every day makes going to work enjoyable and rewarding. If you don’t enjoy your job, you may feel frustrated and drained. Those feelings will follow you home at night and can affect your relationships outside of work.
Explore your career options and think carefully about what really drives and motivates you. In today’s economy, it may be difficult to look past what a job pays or how secure it is, but it is equally essential to consider your interests.
You are more likely to achieve success in a career that you feel passionate about. Doing something you love every day gives you confidence and energy, which extends into other areas of your life.
How can you find what you’re truly passionate about? Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- What do others say that I am good at?
- What do I enjoy doing?
- What are my hobbies?
- What would my ideal day look like?
- What would I attempt in my life if I knew I could not fail?
- What would I do for free?
Confucius said it best: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
