First Sergeant Louis Sidney, Jr. has served in the United States Army for 18 years. Currently, he serves as the Company First Sergeant of Jackson Recruiting Company located in Jackson, Mississippi. 1SG Sidney earned his Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies from Grantham in May 2010.
Recently, 1SG Sidney received the Hall of Fame award during the annual Achievement Awards ceremony hosted by the Association of Private Sector College and Universities. He was selected as the sole recipient of this award not only because he was an outstanding student but because he is also an exceptional father and Soldier.
1SG Sidney selflessly serves our country in the United States Army each and every day, and at the same time, he is also a full-time, single father to his daughter, Zakia. Like many Grantham University students, he juggled work and family responsibilities with the pressures of earning a college degree. He did it, not only for himself, but also to ensure a successful future for his daughter.
During his career, 1SG Sidney has been instrumental in turning around a command that was underperforming. His station in Mississippi went from completing 67% of its mission in 2008 to completing 116% in 2009 and 112% in 2010 under his guidance. Additionally, in a state with one of the highest drop-out rates and one of the lowest ranked educational systems, First Sergeant Sidney worked with district superintendents to introduce a March2Success program into the local schools.
First Sergeant Sidney believes in leading by example. As a result of his dedication to earning his undergraduate degree, all 34 recruiters under his command are now pursuing a college education.
Like many Grantham University students, he juggled work and family responsibilities with the pressures of earning a college degree. He did it, not only for himself, but also to ensure a successful future for his daughter. He is truly an inspiration to many looking to pursue a college degree while balancing a career and family life.
